They found an interesting monolith in Utah but they don't want to give the location of the monolith. However, it isn't that hard to figure out the location given the info.

We found it! The question is definitely who set it up though and yeah how it got there! Especially since it goes back to 2015!
Check out the video for the location and google earth view!

It boggles my mind that they didn't realize with all the publicly available clues that people would be able to find it fairly quickly.

True, people are smart.
But the fact is there are dumb people who will find the location and attempt to hike out to it and likely get into trouble, or die - just like the idiots who died trying to recreate an INTO THE WILD experience.
Safety is a valid concern in this.

Also, is there a possibility of damage to the landscape with people trekking out to it?
Either from a physical or cultural point of view?

I like your questions and I was debating on the "ethics" involved in something like this. I agree with you that something this interesting would likely attract visitors to the location.
I would hope that anyone venturing out into the desert understood basic survival skills that

are needed when going into the desert. It brings up some interesting questions.
1) Will people end up needing to be rescued?
2) Will this thing get damaged / destroyed by visitors?
3) Will this create copycats and more "art installations?"
Thanks for asking these questions!
Who owns/looks after the land where it is?
Are there indigenous beliefs & cultural customs that need to be considered?
(I'm not in the USA in case you can't tell.)
