I'm assuming this is sunrise or sunset. That's due to a lack of ambient light passing through the cloud causing the bottom to look dark.
Or aliens.

😁 Sunset this evening. We've been getting colorful clouds in all directions lately. They're pretty reliable in the Sierra when the sun is low.
