"Cough" syrup. I didn't even realize taking chloroform was a thing but apparently back in the very late 1800's / early 1900's, it went well with morphine and cannabis.

The good ol days. I bet this cough syrup works better than what is on the market today.

Oh for sure. The morphine alone would decrease the amount of coughing. I'm not sure what Chloroform does in small amounts, though. It probably has additional sedating effects.
