"Cough" syrup. I didn't even realize taking chloroform was a thing but apparently back in the very late 1800's / early 1900's, it went well with morphine and cannabis.

The least dangerous item in that mix is the alcohol. So the “snake oil salesmen” was actually selling something that would get you high/or kill you.

In my opinion, the Cannabis is the least dangerous thing there. If someone chugged a bunch of those bottles, the alcohol would probably do more damage before the cannabis did. However I have no idea how dangerous Chloroform is in large amounts.

Oh for sure. The morphine alone would decrease the amount of coughing. I'm not sure what Chloroform does in small amounts, though. It probably has additional sedating effects.
