A very bad look for Facebook - wsj.com/articles/faceb. Understanding how political ads are targeted on FB is of public and academic interest. And recruiting volunteers to donate data is a responsible way to get this data. We need a safe harbor for researchers.

data from social media platforms and make that data available to researchers because I strongly believe that transparent access to that data for researchers ultimately makes our society safer and helps all of us better understand both the positive and detrimental aspects

associated with social media platforms and the content posted on those platforms. I started doing this years ago because I firmly believe it is the right thing to do and will benefit our world.

There is a way to do this. Create a non-profit to perform the data collection task. I'd love to support this effort as an employee, but my expertise is in data collection. Not legal/business/ non-profits. Make it official
