Assuming I hold up for the next few days of this dumpster fire, I will be celebrating 3 years of sobriety this coming Thursday. How should I celebrate? Dry, socially distant pub crawl? Non-alcoholic beer tasting? Middle-aged angst film fest?

Congratulations! My father was an alcoholic when I was a kid growing up and he also kicked the habit after spending some time in detox. There were times in my life when I struggled with alcohol and I think seeing what my father went through helped me learn to moderate my drinking

It is amazing how pervasive such a destructive drug can be in our society. In any event, I'm happy to hear you overcame that challenge. Tackling vices in our life can be extremely challenging. Especially when you find yourself using them as coping mechanisms.

Thanks Jason. I’m going to use the term “overcoming”. It gets easier but it hasn’t yet gotten easy.
