I have a story related to this. I grew up in this area and I never really got a chance to see the night sky with no light pollution. When I moved out to Colorado, a friend and I drove to Phoenix, AZ. That trip meant that we would drive all the way down Colorado into New Mexico...

When we crossed the New Mexico border, we were hundreds of miles from any major city. I remember it was pitch black outside and I saw a "cloud" in the sky. I asked my friend to pull over so we could get out. That "cloud" was actually looking into the heart of our galaxy...

I remember seeing thousands of stars all across the sky. It was just breathtaking -- I had never seen anything like it. It was honestly majestic and awe-inspiring to witness. There were so many different colors...each star was so distinct and crystal clear. It was AMAZING.
