Well this is certainly strange. Twitter verified is supposed to only follow accounts that are verified. However, it is following this account but the account isn't verified by Twitter. First time I've seen something like that. This account gets returned with "filter:verified"...

In the past you would use your verified status by setting the account to private. I assume that didn't lead to being unfollowed. Twitter can remove the status for other reasons as well. I don't know how search exactly works, but it's insanely optimized.

When I asked why old Tweets of an account didn't show up in search, I was told that a reason could be that it was private at the time those Tweets were published. I wasn't able to reproduce that behaviour. But image there could be outdated indexes. Would explain this as well.
