If a guy robs your home at knifepoint and you shoot him in the back halfway across the lawn, even with the castle defense you could be charged with murder because your life was no longer in danger. Shooting someone in the back when they're running away is not self defense.

Dunno the laws in GA, but morally shooting someone in the back when they're running away (esp if they are running in fear!) is a weak position.

Back in the day when I ran with people that (responsibly) owned guns, the consensus was for home defense the first round or two is snake shot. If that doesn't persuade someone, lethal force is probably necessary.

Putting aside the debate over whether the shooting was justified, on a broader level we need to ask ourselves how this situation escalated to the point it did. A man sleeping off alcohol in his car should not end up with his death. Whether there needs to be a change in policy..

Turn around and discharge the taser at one of the officers. I don't know enough about Georgia law in this situation to argue whether the shooting was justifiable, what I can say is that this situation should not have escalated to someone's death.

Tasers have an effective range of 15 feet and are effectively one and done. Cops know this, they're trained in their use IDK law their either, but the police chief resigned because of it before there was even an inquiry so I assume it was dead wrong
