Just saw protesters chanting "tabs not spaces!" outside of an Apple store ... I'm sick to my stomach. This isn't the America I know.

It just doesn't make sense. Tabs are an easy delimiter, the key is right there, and it's less clutter. Hell, half the time you indent with spaces you're just using the tab key and letting your IDE fill in spaces, anyway.

But they shouldn't be spaces at all! I'd even permit space-to-tab conversion if it gets those psychopaths on the right page.
