Let's just hope that smart phone manufacturers will finally standardize their charging port to use USB-C going forward.

Never. That would make too much sense for the consumer, but not enough sense for the corporations that want to extract maximum profit by having proprietary, patented connectors that can’t legally be made and sold at a reasonable price by third parties. IMHO.
