Here's an idea. Gather all followers for all major GOP and democrat politicians. Create a graph showing when those users were created and compare the two against one another. It will take about a week to get all followers for all senators, representatives and governors in the US.

Can't use GitHub for storage in the long-haul, but started this way since it'll mean diffs encode valuable info (cc 's suggestion in this thread, and cc and w.r.t Neo4j / other db use).
