It's not a total freeze (accounts are still getting verified). Twitter changed up how the process works so that people are unable to submit their account for possible verification.

You have a quarter million followers so it's highly likely someone from Twitter may be following you. I'd suggest scanning who is following you to see if there are any Twitter employees and then perhaps hit them up directly.
At this point it's completely a networking exercise.
