So with the current trajectory etc are going to be creating a system where scraping is promoted, within which it's much more likely sensitive data will be taken, rather than allowing an API for public content.

One issue I've noticed over and over is that a young company will provide a robust API that invites developers. Developers come and help promote the company's products by providing more powerful tools. Company grows and then starts restricting the API or cuts features.
