This really drives home the political insanity of the last few years. This is a graph of all comments made to Reddit's /r/Politics subreddit. Look at the difference in volume between 2012-2016 and 2016 to today.

Can you normalize to overall reddit traffic? I feel like that also spiked in the same period but don't know for sure. And it may be for the same reasons.

Good point -- That's actually something I want to build into the current analysis tool. I'll definitely start work on adding it because that would be a very powerful tool to have.
