Melissa -- I was thinking about something like this. Perhaps some combination of term matching vs. velocity of the increase in retweets / likes (that show it's a major news breaking tweet). Thoughts?

In this situation, I don't think we'd miss it since many major news outlets picked up on it -- it would just end up getting out a little later. I'll have to look at a way to put together a solid list of Twitter news accounts. I'd also want to include reporters directly, etc.
