Anyone with experience in OCR or AI/ML looking for a challenge to solve which would help climate science? We have thousands of pages of historical weather observations which need numerical values extracting efficiently & accurately so we can better understand extreme weather.

Looking over a sample of the data, there are a few things at play here. Pulling the numbers out is trivial. The complicated parts will be creating a structured data schema for each of the various formats. This is definitely doable and at scale but will require collaboration.

As an armchair weather enthusiast, I understand some of this data but there is some stuff beyond my knowledge. Depending on the number of different formats, getting a proper data schema for each would be the first major step. Then it's a matter of running in bulk, checks, etc.
