Probably not deletions then, but there is, I believe, a “low quality” flag that affects results. Has been around since 2010-2012. Or at least, I think there was a flag like this back around that time (when I was last making comparisons across search strategies).

It appears to be "content sensitive" tweets -- porn, etc. That's what I'm seeing going over a small sampling. This begs the question of whether there is a search API parameter that gets sensitive content as well. ?
There is the setting for user accounts to show sensitive content, which worked for me in the past. But I never tested if it affects the API. twitter.com/luca/status/88
There is "filter:safe", but from my understanding that is off in the API per default.

There is the other thing that Twitter claims that the standard API is incomplete (not all Tweets indexed).
