Twitter mentions of "earthquake" or "terremoto" (Spanish for earthquake). This is a view zoomed in to a 7 minute period. The earthquake started at 17:33:49. It took around 30 seconds after the Earthquake started before tweets hit Twitter.

Also, this is showing 5 second intervals. So every 5 seconds there were around 1,000 tweets (a tweet here being a tweet, retweet or quoted tweet) where the words earthquake or terremoto were present within the tweets.

Nice. Did you build your anomaly detection model yet? How would you optimize the threshold to fire the alert for your earthquake detector?

Haven't finished it yet. This particular earthquake caused the tweet volume to shoot up well over dozens of standard deviations. It will be interesting once I run some tests eventually to see how it would react using historical (this) data.
