For the 2020 US elections, I would like to track all politicians on Twitter. To take it a step further, it makes sense to get all known political accounts on Twitter. I am currently ingesting all verified user tweets -- but there are a lot of local level politicians not verified.

Are there any recommendations on how best to discover all international politicians on Twitter? Is this a job best for crowd-sourcing? All accounts added will be monitored in real-time.

Wikipedia could be a good place for such a project (list). High visibility, many helping hands, existing infrastructure.

lists by the official orgs: twitter.com/thedemocrats/l - current
twitter.com/TheDLCC/lists - upcoming
some are better than others & the lists of candidates are by nature ephemeral

Oh, it would take scraping or something but ballotpedia.org has like everything including the obscure candidates
ballotpedia.org/Mitch_McConnell <- has twitter account, many candidates just don't have much of a social media presence

You may want to talk with , whose Electome project did something similar in 2016. In addition to politicians, he got a large set of political journalists, and was able to document interesting interlinking behavior.
