You mentioned you like to keep the raw json as a column in each row. Does that effect performance?

Not noticeably but I'm using SSDs or NVMe drives. You can use a jsonb column in PostgreSQL. Store the json in a text column or if you really want to get cool, use zstd dictionary compression and store it in a bytea column.

Benefit of jsonb column is that you can later create indexes on any of the keys. Downside is ~3x space. It really depends on what you're storing I guess...
