I'm thinking about starting a completely open source social media platform to counteract a lot of the noise on Facebook, Twitter, etc. -- Users get full control over what content they can filter. Rich API for researchers with no restrictions to data for research purposes, etc.

I would also vote for a REAL open API for researchers to use since I (and we)'ve all been through the tough roads scraping the Internet. Thanks for what you've done and I'm looking forward to the new SNS idea!
