I presume there's a crazy long tail here. Do you know how many are active - for whatever rough definition of active you know or want to use? :P

Very long tail -- using the word "active" liberally -- maybe 50-100k subreddits were active over the past 30 days? I'd have to double check. This would include either a submission to that subreddit or a comment made in it.
