They grow up so fast. Discovered my 8 year old was trying to learn computer programming on Khan Academy, but it was SQL. Pointed her to to save her from the horrors of RDBMS as long as I can.

They spend years teaching you to normalize your database only for the real-world to teach you that sometimes partial denormalization is better for your specific application.

The most important advice I can give from a DBM perspective is this: If you ever have to run a DELETE on a production system, run it as a SELECT first and verify that your statement is 100% correct.
