A lot of journalists aren’t verified, or at least they weren’t when we were looking. We used MuckRack, there’s also some work that I can’t currently find that built a classifier to identify journalists.

One approach that I found very successful is to start with a verified list of journalists and then look at their network connections (who they follow is a biggie). Generally journalists will follow other journalists, so that's an easy way to build up a very large list.
