one of the oldest and arguably the most important museum in Brazil is burning to the ground. home to the portuguese royal family from 1808 to 1821, the Museu Nacional stored fossils, meteorites, pre-historic human skeletons and a variety of artifacts related to natural history.

"Luzia" just had the most expensive cremation ever. This loss to the science community is just incalculable. I can't think of a worse blow to the science community over the past 100+ years. What an extremely sad day.
