To my #datascience friends -- I am looking to expand my knowledge and abilities with machine learning and NLP. What courses / areas of study do you feel are essential as prerequisites for ML?

We recommend courses from the Coursera. And as a playground you can use our GPU-servers. You can install everything from scratch (CUDA, drivers, framework for machine learning) and so you can understand how everything works in detail.

Sklearn and trying out lots of datasets that are meaningful to you. There is a big intuition component to learn imho.

How confident are you in linear algebra? It’s not at all required but it helps a lot with your under the hood intuition. I never took it in school but this yt series helped me get the basics: youtube.com/playlist?list=

This is great! I definitely need to brush up on it. I was thinking for maths that statistics, linear algebra and calculus would be a good ground-floor for ML.

Depending on your math background, you might be better off learning the three core representations of text, esp so for the work you do. Focus on word2vec, CNN, and RNN LSTM in that order of complexity
