Two 1 in a thousand weather events in a 21 month period. I get that statistics can have crazy runs, but how sure are we that these models reflect the current reality taking into account global warming and other climate trends?

I don't think Global Warming is directly linked to stalled out thunderstorms. It can literally happen anywhere anytime under the right atmospheric conditions. Not saying Globe isn't warming just have a hard time to link the disaster to it.

I've heard a couple theories including development above the area that used to act as dampener for large rain events. But wouldn't a hotter atmosphere have the ability to hold more water for larger downpours, too?
It would, but how do we know on such smaller scale. This flood was very localized.
