Double entendre rarely fails at its singular purpose. I'm from NYC so I've seen that change from both sides. This may just be a "city" problem writ large. The more humans, the more inhumanity.

Nah, I disagree. Your last lines indicate that you’ve given up. Strength begets strength. Weakness begets weakness. No offense, but if you’ve given up, that’s weakness, and that’s part of the problem. It takes a really strong person to lead that many people.

It's an observation of the trend, not a prognostication. Trajectories can be altered, yes. Consensus on values and strategies is probably more of the problem than strong leadership.

So much to unpack here, and I’ve probably drank too much bourbon to unpack anything. Summation: we have consensus on values - you just have to listen. We NEED leadership that can actually execute.

I think the balance of authoritarian extremes on both of the far sides of the political divide is the key, else we have trouble defining who is "we".

Ummm, I think we agree on this, but I don’t think Obama is willing to run again. And, he damn sure won’t accept being mayor of SF or NYC.

It lets you talk to people. I think you might like it. Or, you can just listen.

Seems like so many of these recent offerrings are just a variation on the CU-SeeMe idea from the 90s, with or without video, now with more bandwidth, color, scale...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CU-SeeMe

You’re exactly right! But, the bandwidth didn’t exist in the 90’s, and now, it does. I don’t know who’s going to win, but I’m glad they’re all competing.

Having watched the internet unfold from then to now, I find almost nothing has changed except for those things: bandwidth, colors, and scale. True for social media, desktop & mobile. Winning is about user base numbers these days, when it could be about genuine & positive novelty.
