  2. Lately I've found myself transitioning from tons of freelance writing to working on books full-time. At first it was a dream come true. But as it turns out, I've done the freelance grind for so long that it's been drilled into me. I miss the rhythm of it. Stockholm syndrome?

  4. Fun fact: 7 Seconds were every bit as instrumental in the creation of emo in the mid-'80s as Rites Of Spring were. But 7 Seconds never attained that hip, mythic status.

  5. "Use your head! Be aware! GIVE A FUCK!" 2020 is the 40th anniversary of 7 SECONDS. A band that lifts me up when I fall flat, inspires me when I'm empty, and will always be a cornerstone of who I am and what I believe. Signed, A Corny Old Posicore Kid

  6. Take that, Trump supporters in the Senate! Some rando in a hundred years will stumble across the footnote about your impeachment vote on your Wikipedia page! Tremble!

So relieved to hear that history will be harsh to Trump and kind to his foes! After all, when has history ever failed to side with the moral and just?

I'm sitting in a coffeeshop and one barista is wearing a Kate Bush shirt and the other barista is wearing a 7 Seconds shirt and I'm wondering if maybe they're sims I unconsciously created.

Takes a shitload of privilege to think of the Trump years as "zany."

Anyway, this isn't about R.E.M. or The Cure, really. I'm just happy that music sprawls out in so many dimensions through our lives, nonlinearly, and with never-ending discovery, rediscovery, reevaluation, and joy.

It's kind of like my relationship with The Cure. After adoring them as a kid in the '80s, I drifted away from them in the '90s/'00s. But a few years ago I went back and explored their mid-/late-period albums, and holy crap! I mean, I totally slept on the underrated Bloodflowers.

I mean, I always listened to each new R.E.M. album in the '90s and '00s. Some I even liked. But none of them ever connected with me the way their '80s stuff did. Now, though... yeah, I'm feeling it.

I kind of lost interest in R.E.M.* in the early '90s after falling in love with them in the '80s. That was stupid of me. I've been exploring their post-Green albums in greater depth, and wow. *I know R.E.M. is a tired old Gen-X subject, but I am a tired old Gen-Xer, so stick it.

performative hatred of the US south does nothing other than demonstrate your own classism and how little you care for the marginalized people who live there and fight tooth and nail against voter suppression and gerrymandering

My old friend Tim just found me on social media and I'm super stoked because he'd be the only person on the dancefloor when I would play Descendents at my '80s dance night twenty years ago.

I'm being told I have to "edit" my new novel before publication to make it both "readable" and "remotely coherent" to prevent critics from "universally panning it" as part of larger scheme to get people to "buy it" just so the publisher can "recoup" their "advance."
