Asking Facebook to stop tracking users across web, devices to mine their behaviors doesn't mean they have to switch to a subscription model. It means they would need be less profitable. Facebook is literally making an argument they can't regulate their own behaviors. May be true.
IAB, Facebook's trade association, makes the same argument around privacy rules. They say if you force us to collect less data then we'll have to move to subscription models. It's absurd. These services roll in money from your data: Google and Facebook the main beneficiaries.

Yes. Some of our members are in IAB which is a much wider tent (DCN-type members, true “Publishers,” are probably about 10% of IAB). We have no platforms, ad tech so G/FB aren’t in DCN.
