This is a little misleading. If Harvard contracts with a corporation, Starbucks for example, to set up a coffee shop in their building, Starbucks would then be the employer of the people that work there. It would be up to Starbucks to choose to pay them or not.

@Harvard you have the endowment the size of some countries, you can spare the money believe me -
I get your point, but universities aren't allowed to just dip into their endowments to pay operating costs.
