Thanks to everyone who suggested WorldCat.org as a less commercial place (than Amazon) for canonical information about individual books. Unfortunately, information on WorldCat is uneven, so I can't use it consistently. Other suggestions?

Can you please elaborate about the uneven information? I work for OCLC, who owns WorldCat.org – I can look into it.

Some books have relatively complete details, but others are missing important information. For example, the entry for Gamestorming — which is a popular book in the design/facilitation world — is missing the book's subtitle, co-authors, and cover image.
