I use the term “member” in my classes instead of “student” because I don’t like the hierarchy of “teacher-student”. I like horizontal rather than vertical. My class is a family and we are all working toward a common goal.

Dr. Mancuso, what you said did not make sense. You make a syllabus that is a contract between a teacher and students, and you grade them. It can’t be like a family. Of course you can create a friendly atmosphere in classroom - I heard you practiced polar opposite though.
