I'm biased here, but this is one of the strongest visual illusions I have ever seen. None of the colored lines are moving.

Biologists have identified more than 500 species of living , belonging to 81 genera. I drew this tree to show the current understanding of primate relationships with the highest-level groupings within the order.

Phylogeny of living primates, separated into 81 genera. Image by John Hawks, following the phylogeny presented by Roos and ZInner 2016 https://doi.org/10.1002/9781119179313.wbprim0394 Silhouettes from phylopic.org.

A new paper in reports latitudinal gradients in intergroup differentiation between us and them. The findings show that intergroup differentiation and discrimination peak at the equator and decrease with distance from the equator.

The Urodidae family of moths have a clever solution for surviving the wet & humid climate of the rainforest — instead of building cocoons that fully cover the pupae, they build "open-network cocoons" that allow for better ventilation 🐛
