Are there type inference systems that allow incorporations of “proofs” of type membership? I.e inferring n \mapsto n(n+1)/2 as a map Z -> Z.

An interesting article by Rivest about a protocol to get confidentiality from authentication: even from a non-involved third party!

This is an outrageous stunt. I approve. Portland DA, police chief, mayor are right, legally: our broken 4th Amd doctrine claims we have no reasonable expectation of privacy for our trash. A newspaper picked through the bigshots’ garbage to test the proposition in real life.

And it only took her 9 years. The political skills needed to both become the commander of such a fleet and run it successfully are insane.

Keep in mind, these fleets were sufficient to blockade and pillage entire cities, and Zheng Shi commanded *300* ships. She was so powerful she ruled several villages, imposing taxes and the like. When she retired, she opened a gambling house.

Both were captured and killed by the Royal Navy, and both commanded fleets that were positively puny compared to Zheng Shi: Blackbeard only commanded two ships (Queen Anne's Revenge and Revenge) while Black Bart commanded less than a dozen.

More perspective on Zheng Shi: let's take two of the most successful European pirates from the golden age of piracy: Edward Teach (Blackbeard) and Bartholomew Roberts (Black Bart)
