This shtick isn’t for American Jews—who can evaluate antisemitism perfectly well by themselves, thanks. It’s for the Republican base, who need constant reassurance that bigotry isn’t their most salient characteristic—despite endless evidence to the contrary.

I doubt it’s much about antisemitism. More likely pleasing the apocalyptic evangelical wing of republican voters, who want Israel to be made whole so that Jesus can come back. Spoiler: a total misinterpretation of the madman ravings of Revelations, Jesus ain’t coming back.
