How bright will be when it blows up? Moon-ish brighness for 3+ months, seen during the daytime for about a year, brighter than the star now for ~2 years, naked eye visible for ~3 years. Credit: grad students Jared Goldberg and Evan Bauer using MESA. 1/

Look at this tin boat floating in sulfur hexafluoride. ⛵️ Sulfur hexafluoride is invisible and denser than air. The foil boat is so light that it floats but once you pour some of the gas into it it sinks, just like water. Via ©IG Science.

When you burn steel wool, it becomes heavier. Iron becomes heavier when oxidized and when steel wool is lit it basically speeds up the oxidation causing the weight to increase. Oxygen particles attach during combustion. ©Nigel Baldwin.
