Starting to plan the next Stockholm UX Writing and Content Design meetup. This one has a justice theme and is online, so I’m open to speakers from anywhere. The theme is “just words” and the question in focus is: how can we address unjust things when our job is “just words”?

We know our work is deeper than that, but how can we have impact when we’re barely seen as designers? We also often face the problem that, to truly serve users transparent language, we’d have to tell them the truth about what a product really does, and that’s not always GOOD.

I’m not interested in D&I talks, since “let’s get more women/URMs into the field” usually reads to me like “let’s invite more women to this frat party.” Or interface case studies. But since a lot of design justice work hasn’t been done yet, I’d even love speculative stuff!

It’ll be early fall & I’m still looking for 2-3 speakers. You don’t have to be a UX writer, but have something to share w/those who are. I always reach out in my network, but feel free to tag ppl (with their consent!) if you think they’d like this meetuphttps://www.meetup.com/Stockholm-UX-writing-and-content-design/ …

One last important thing: if you’ve got something to say that fits this meetup and topic, but you’ve never given a talk before, please don’t worry! We love to have first-time speakers, and it’s a friendly crowd. We are also looking for a sponsor who supports our values, btw!

I’ll be posting the event description soon, but I’m still feeding the tiny baby and need to make the page. Since I’m apparently still tweeting, we’re especially interested in the Black experience in Europe, speakers of minority languages, indigenous folks, migrant perspectives.

Oh! And we’d also be into talks on organizing for solidarity with justice movements and/or worker rights. Again, speculative is fine! It should go without saying: Black Lives Matter, trans women are women, reverse racism/sexism aren’t real, and the “fair world fallacy” is poison

The silver lining of the pandemic is that so many events I can’t afford to travel to are now accessible. Small good things. The programming intentions/goals sounds awesome.

That’s how I feel! And thank you! The last one was transitioned to remote after we planned it, so I figure with this one, I can make it more international and more ambitious. I’m really hoping for a mix of US and non-US perspectives, since justice issues differ so much!
