I don’t get prayer. People pray and ask others to pray for an outcome. Is the idea that God is not paying attention till enough people tug at His robes? Or that He needs to see how many people support a particular position before getting on board?

The idea, I think, is to concentrate one's own mind on an appeal for grace, an expression of gratitude, or a confession of humility. It's not that someone's listening -- it's that we stand before the spirit we conjure, magically relieving our own solitude & helplessness.

I have to think that prayer comforts the one doing the praying. Although, in my life I have witnessed many answers TO prayer. But I wonder if the outcome would have been the same if nobody prayed? Excuse me while I continue my crisis of faith over here.

Yes thank you. It also makes a difference if there are two sides and one side has more prayer warriors than the other. You HAVE to have more prayer warriors.
