The Virgin Mary was born without, as Pope Pius IX put it, “all stain of original sin.”

I'm not going to lie, Jane. I messed that one up all the time in CCD class.

We'll be expecting your Act of Contrition forthwith. Bonus points if you can fit it into one tweet.

Yes, this is the "actually, Frankenstein is the doctor" of the Catholic Church.

It never ceases to amaze me how many fellow Catholics assume that Immaculate Conception refers to Jesus rather than the BVM
-
I mean it's an easy misunderstanding to make if you just hear the name of the feast. Not to mention a feast to jesus' conception taking place a few weeks before Christmas would sorta make sense. There are a lot more silly misunderstandings people have than this one.

I'm not going to lie, I spent eight years in catholic school and honestly didn't realize this. I knew Mary was without sin, but always thought the Immaculate Conception was for the conception of Jesus. I suppose it not being 9 months away from Xmas should have been a red flag.
-
Note: The Annunciation *is* celebrated on March 25th, exactly 9 months before Christmas.
