A thing @mattyglesias has smartly raised (and we’ll be discussing on The Weeds next week) is that our perception of politics is largely based on the media interpretation of politics rather than what actually happens in politics. And I think its an area where I’ve screwed up.

This is not to say that these conversations don’t matter, or aren’t reflective of what GOP voters have been actually saying or actually want— which is my argument in a lot of respects.

It’s worth noting how representation in Congress is elected. Under our winner-take-all electoral system there’s no proportional representation for voters. Public support & policy are disconnected. Requires reforms like the

People need to learn what a "policy" is and how policy and actual laws affect us on the individual level. Modern conservatives love the sexiness of culture wars, but if they looked into actual policies, they'd see it's all deregulation, weakening worker rights, blocking votes...
