Seward was in bed recovering from a carriage accident, Powell stabbed five people, including Seward, and somehow no one died.https://twitter.com/davidfucillo/status/1300572901838479360 …

I find myself fascinated by the incompetency of Lewis Powell in attempting to assassinate William Seward.

Respect to George Atzerodt, who was supposed to kill Andrew Johnson and got as far as “asking a bartender where he was” and got hammered instead.

The more I learn about the plot to kill Lincoln the more I think “wow, these people were morons”

If one person was going to be assassinated that day it should have been Andrew Johnson ...unless you believe that the radical Republican government wouldn't have happened without him

If it wasn’t for Booth’s success, the Lincoln assassination conspiracy would’ve made for a great Cohen Brothers movie.

Booth’s tragic luck in getting to Lincoln’s box makes the “conspiracy” look a lot more planned than it was. Powell and Azerodt’s failures reflect the rash idiocy that was at the heart of it. (Booth’s original plan was to run through armed guards at the 2nd inaugural.)
