Sometimes I talk about “the thing” and some subjects being “thing-adjacent.” This is, in my view, “the thing.” Trickle-down restrictions in civil liberties, and the dramatic widening of police powers — and in what police are intended for — is so very important.https://twitter.com/janecoaston/status/1232346786443993093 …

Someone at this school called the police on a six-year-old. (Also, notably, the officer thought the six-year-old in question was “older.” Studies have shown that black girls are often interpreted as older than they are. https://slate.com/human-interest/2017/06/black-girls-are-seen-as-being-older-than-their-age.html …)

But seriously, a police officer with a history of child abuse accusations took a 6-year-old into custody, because someone at her school thought the police should come arrest a 6-year-old who may have had a tantrum. That’s the most fucked up thing I’ve heard in a long time.

My most libertarian viewpoint is that because everyone has someone they want to heave the power of state violence at — children, loud neighbors, homeless people, gun owners, whomever is viewed as the Thing They Do Not Want — the power of state violence should be limited.

I’m sure many of you agree with me, but you might be thinking “except for this thing that I do not like or want,” and buddy, I mean that thing, too.

Ergo the power of the state should be limited, for the power of the state is inherently violent as it's always based on coercion, not in persuasion.

in my experience, conservatives and libertarians mirror Our Founders in that they believe the coercive power of the state should be used exclusively against non-whites and whites with dissimilar political leanings.

Are you kidding? Libertarians LOVE state violence. It's how property rights are enforced.
