The Panic of 1893 resulted in the election of William McKinley (and the rise of protectionism) and the corresponding rise of populism.

Side note: in another world in which I did something else I’d research the relationship between Garvey, Garveyites and Rastafarianism. For example, in Bob Marley’s “So Much Things to Say”pic.twitter.com/puQPUHsSi3

Rastafarianism is such a fascinating religious tradition in dozens of ways.

I’m so here for this. The Panic of 1893 is the biggest turning point in American history that no one pays attention to.

Has anyone written a good book on the Panic of 1893?

But didn't it thwart the election of McKinley? Seems like WJB wouldn't have stood a chance otherwise?

POTUS was not the result of a panic. He is the manifestation of a revolt against career politicians. Look at the Republicans he beat in the primaries and the Democrat in the general. And if the Dems aren’t smart it will happen again in 2020
