This is great news, although discrimination will inevitably be difficult to prove.

Sad but true. :/ I can already hear the "brainstorming" of suitable questions designed to weed out "undesirables", or in estate agent talk "less socially upwardly mobile."

It was pure discrimination from landlords/agents assuming that if you receive DSS then you're an 'undesirable' person that they wouldn't want in their property

I tried to tell a Lettings agent about this just recently and got treated C very aggressively and patronisingly as a result, needless to say I didn’t rent a house with them!

Interesting point from the Landlord’s Association - “ But he added that the government could support tenants by ensuring benefits covered rents entirely.” Even in an ex-mining village in the NE where I am, ie reasonably cheap, Housing Benefit only covers 2/3 of rent...

There are so many things wrong with private renting, it literally is just a cashcow for second home owners. Letting/estate agents are just as bad & often rude too, even if you have a good well paid job.

I was the same yet even as an 8yr old i could see it was because of stereotypes not payments as payments were made direct to landlords
-
Back then they were but not any more, it doesn't go direct to landlord. Unfortunately this has led to a large increase in rent from those on housing benefit now not getting paid and people are getting evicted.
