Now on the Tennessee House floor, Rep. Justin Lafferty is yelling about how the three-fifths compromise was good. Republicans applaud. Members of the black caucus are huddling in groups.

It was probably in a text message from some conservative think tank or legislative group like ALEC.

Yep. The talking point of the day is "The 3/5 compromise wasn't racist."

Seems like this is a new Republican talking point as it was repeated in Tennessee too. Next?

The three fifths compromise's main goal was to maximize profit for cotton producing southern states by dehumanizing the progeny of enslaved Africans. Safe to say anybody advocating for it is a white supremacist...or just a Republican.

Repulsive. Saying 3/5 rule "was not impugning anybody’s humanity” willfully ignores that "3/5ths persons" had Zero standing in Slave States' politics, thereby boosting those state's Federal power. 3/5ths further empowered a social class that engaged in a 100% abhorrent practice.
