  10. If you want to see where he gets that spirit from, I recommend Joyce Milgaard's book. She fought the world, and her son would probably still be in prison today if she didn't.

  13. This story was so present throughout my life on the prairies (very close at times -- my parents bought his parents' house in the 1970s, as they continued to fight his conviction.) He is a truly remarkable person, and I think often about what he and his family went through....

  15. Fifty years ago today, a 16-year-old boy was convicted of a murder he didn't commit. He has lived in the shadow of that conviction ever since. Re-upping my recent story about David Milgaard, and his ongoing fight against wrongful conviction.

David Milgaard was convicted of the murder of Gail Miller fifty years ago today. It is one of the most egregious wrongful convictions in Canadian history. If you haven't already, please read 's moving interview him from last year.
