I’ve never been promoted, in 20+ years of working in software. Hadn’t fully realized it until I saw this thread & thought through all the ‘transitions’ I’ve been through. 20 years here too, and never even been close to being promoted. But if you like writing code, what career path is there really? None, I think. Slightly more money, that’s it. When we’re too old to be interesting, it’s out on the streets.
