Being lonely will kill you faster than obesity?https://www.thesun.co.uk/living/4188309/being-single-could-kill-lonely-people-50-more-likely-to-die-young/ …

No wonder why my health is going to shit (sarcasm). Is it bad that I find these claims a bit silly? “Being single is worse than being obese” and the like.

I feel you. I appreciate that human intimacy is (for many) fundamental to flourishing, but I worry that this way of formulating the claim will license resentful “incel” types.

I read obesity as a medical condition that makes dying prematurely (or something like that) 30% more likely compared to 50% of those who are “single” or “lonely”. I forget which one as they seem to use both interchangeably.

The Sun dot co dot uk is a pretty nefarious right wing tabloid btw, Justin, so you’re citing sources whose framings are likely to be pretty problematic. Heard of the Daily Mail? It’s like the Daily Mail. It’s literally the other one of that.

Oh wow. Thx for that info. Good to know. I like reading things from all slants As it’s good to know how others are grabbing things. To be clear i *almost* always read “obesity” (in contexts that seem to appeal to science) as a clinical condition and not as an attempt to shame.
